ABOUT BPFSG
When FAHK was created in 2011, it was a platform for sharing, discussion, and exploration of the wisdom and information that maestro Oscar Nieto bestowed upon us. In order to put that into action, FAHK has formed a buleria por fiesta study group (BPFSG). This is FAHK's first endeavor towards the direction of establishing a healthy and consistent learning environment to combat complacency, ignorance, and laziness. The study group is a place to study buleria por fiesta (BPF), share our knowledge, expand our horizons, gain information, and practice what we know. More importantly, it is where we can help and support each other, practice together and reflect deeply of things we learn from our maestro and others like him.
You may be asking, why conduct a study group rather than workshops? No knowledge is ever gained without study, and no studying is ever complete without hard work and dedication. And when you are tired of studying alone and hard work becomes difficult, it is always easier to study with someone else. That is why we want to create a study group to study BPF, a specific genre of flamenco that provides multiple levels of challenges to a flamenco student. This brand of flamenco is demanding and complex, and at the same time requires the student to acquire knowledge in every aspect of flamenco: music, cante, baile, compás, palmas and jaleo, as well as the buleria palo.

In a study group, each participant is responsible for his/her own education. There is no spoon feeding. It is for this reason that a study group is formed rather than conducting workshops. Each participant is responsible for his/her own learning. There is no formal “teacher” but information is offered and shared on a peer-to-peer basis without judgment. In a study group, participants are encourage to give and receive constructive criticism, and engage in critical thinking and deep reflection for themselves. In order to understand, digest, practice, experiment, and learn BPF, an activity that requires multiple people taking on different roles simultaneously, it is only natural to come together with like-minded individuals and form a group to study together. That's a no-brainer! For this reason, the BPFSG is formed for the pure study, exploration, experimentation and enjoyment of a wonderfully challenging and rewarding flamenco experience called por fiesta, something that many of us have lost in the midst of the barrage of masterclass workshops that cruise through Hong Kong in the recent years.
BPFSG is open to all FAHK members. Please visit the subsequent pages to learn more about the study group. If you are not an FAHK member but have some buleria por fiesta experience and wish to join BPFSG, please contact FAHK at [email protected].

- Is a small group of people who regularly meet to discuss shared fields of study
- Is a small group of students taking the same class who meet regularly outside of class time who are committed to helping each other to be successful by working together
- Is where all members should make a serious commitment to show up and to do the required preparation prior to any group meeting
- Is NOT a substitute for attending class, a way to get others to do your homework, or a social group
- Has members taking turns teaching each other the material
